Extended service

POLICE will provide travel permits and passport services on Saturdays for Shenzhen residents at exit-entry halls of each district from Jan. 15. The service will be available from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., police said Thursday.

Man kills grandson

A 3-YEAR-OLD baby was killed by his grandfather in Bao an District on Wednesday. Suspected of being mentally unstable, the old man, identified as Jiang, also hacked to death the sister of his son-in-law and injured three other relatives, leaving two in critical conditions.

Neighbors who witnessed the assaults subdued Jiang and took the five injured to hospital. The boy and his aunt were pronounced dead in hospital.

Taiwan flights

SHENZHEN Airlines will add 40 flights from Shenzhen, Wuxi in Jiangsu Province and Quanzhou in Fujian Province to Taipei during the Spring Festival holidays, the company said Thursday. Flights to Taipei from Wuxi and Quanzhou will benefit travelers in Nanjing, Fuzhou and Xiamen. It takes only 95 minutes from Quanzhou and 105 minutes from Wuxi to Taipei.
