Air route to India
HAINAN Airlines will open a passenger flight from Shenzhen to Calcutta in India in the first half of this year, the Shenzhen transport commission said yesterday. The transport authorities will also commission Lufthansa Cargo UNI-TOP Logistics to open international cargo routes. Details were not available.
The air transport industry contributed 30 billion yuan (US$4.54 million) to the city economy and air-passenger turnover was 26.71 million in 2010, the fourth biggest in China.
Baby death
A 4-MONTH-OLD baby was killed in a grocery fire in Pingshan New Zone on Tuesday. The baby boy and his mother, identified as Mou, 24, were trapped in the store by the fire. They were rushed to hospital where Mou was in a stable condition. The baby died in hospital. The fire is suspected of being caused by a heater.
Toilet renovation
THE urban management bureau will complete the renovation of public toilets by the end of May. Obstacle-free facilities will be added to public toilets and daily maintenance is expected to be enhanced. It is part of measures to clean up the city before the Universiade in August.
