A MAN blocked the No. 970 bus terminal in Tongle Community in Longgang Subdistrict, Longgang District, over a land dispute in which he claims the East Bus Group owes him more than 10 million yuan (US$1.52 million).
Li Zhipei, who had been contracted to operate the No. 970 route for more than 10 years, said the government valuation of the total asset was 21 million yuan when it was taken back by the government and managed by Shenzhen East Bus Group last January.
If the government does not give me the money, I still own the bus terminal land, so I reserve the right to close the terminal, Li was quoted as saying in the Shenzhen Evening News yesterday.
The closure halted all buses on route 970 and forced the Shenzhen West Bus Group to deploy buses from other routes. But Li intercepted these buses with his own vehicle and forced the 15 relief buses to park at the side of the road, the Shenzhen transport commission said Monday.
Services returned to normal at 4:40 p.m. after police stepped in.
The bus group s operations manager, identified as Xu, said the company had paid Li all the money including 3.58 million yuan for the asset, 840,000 yuan in deposit and 3.37 million yuan for the terminal.
We don t owe Li any money. The 21 million yuan Li was demanding includes the cost of the land, for which Li needed to provide the certificate. The land on which the terminal was built is collectively owned by the village. Li cannot provide relevant documents because he was involved in a dispute with the village over the land and the government could not pay the money, Xu said.
The East Bus Group is negotiating with Li.
In another development, the managers of bus routes 337 and 338 were demoted for poor management after a dispute with drivers halted more than 100 buses for five hours Monday.
