A FORMER official of the city s urban planning, land and resources commission was sentenced to seven years in jail for taking bribes and abuse of power.

Liu was put under shuanggui, a form of detention imposed on Party officials who are asked to confess wrongdoings, by the city s Party disciplinary watchdog in June 2010. Liu s family had paid back the bribe money in July, the court said.

A city Party disciplinary inspection committee investigation showed Liu s villa was sold to him by developers at half price. Liu was handed over to the city procuratorate for further investigation and was arrested July 7, 2010.
