Police warn of ticket scams

SHENZHEN railway police have warned people against a variety of ticket-selling scams in the runup to the Spring Festival travel peak, when train tickets are in short supply.

In the latest incident, a 20-year-old Jiangxi woman paid 600 yuan (US$90) for a train ticket to Jiujiang on the Internet and ended up getting nothing when she went to pick up the ticket, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

Swindlers were also profiting by posing as railway station staff or selling forgeries.

In another incident, a man paid 600 yuan for a train ticket to Shenyang at an illegal ticket office in Jingtianbei in Futian District. He was later told by railway station staff that the ticket was a forgery, the paper said.

Police arrested the ticket seller, who admitted collecting used tickets at the station exit and then changing the ticket dates and face values. (Li Hao)
