SHENZHEN transport authorities will add three holiday buses from Shenzhen West Railway Station to bus terminals in Bao an and Longgang from today, the first day of the 40-day Spring Festival transport season.

Buses to Longgang, Bao an and Xixiang bus terminals will run between 6 a.m. and 3 a.m. during the pre-festival period and 24 hours a day during the post-festival period.

The aim is to divert passengers quickly and avoid passengers becoming stranded, the transport commission said yesterday.

Shenzhen Metro Co. will extend the Line 1 service to midnight Jan. 30 and 31, Feb. 3, 7, 8 and 9. In addition, Shenzhen bus companies will have 350 buses on standby at checkpoints, railway stations and tourist attractions.

Shenzhen Railway Station has designated a car park and passages connecting Metro station and nearby schools as temporary venues, providing 6,200 square meters for passengers as waiting areas.

Shenzhen railway is expected to transport 1.44 million passengers during the pre-festival period.

From today, passengers can book return tickets for between Feb. 6 and 15 to eight stations in Hunan Province by calling 9510-5105 or 9602-0088.

Ninety percent of air tickets for the pre-holiday period from Shenzhen to other major Chinese cities had been sold, China Southern Airlines sources said yesterday.

Shenzhen traffic police will set up 19 inspection stations on major roads to check speeding and overloading of long-distance buses and fatigue driving, police said.

Vehicles and drivers with records for traffic offenses had been suspended from providing Spring Festival transport. Buses traveling more than 400 kilometers must have two drivers changing at intervals of four hours.
