SHENZHEN would build 540,000 apartments occupying floor space of 40.76 million square meters in the next five years, according to a housing construction planning report, which was made public for consultation.
Of the planned apartments, 240,000 would be government-subsidized housing occupying 13.76 million square meters of floor space.
About 20 percent of the apartments built in the past five years were government-subsidized and it was planned to take the proportion to 44 percent in the next five years, the Shenzhen Evening News reported Saturday.
As well as increasing the number of new apartments, the plan also aimed to improve the quality of life in the next five years.
Property management was expected to cover 51 percent of the city s residential communities while 95 percent of daily domestic waste would be treated without polluting the environment, according to the plan.
Municipal facilities supplying water, electricity and gas would service the entire city in the next five years.
A total of 12 square kilometers of land would be provided for residential use in the next five years, no less than 70 percent of which would be required for the construction of apartments each with a floor area smaller than 90 square meters, according to the plan.
The city government provided 1,646 hectares of land last year, the paper said.
