Rocks block bus terminal

THE entrance to a bus terminal in Nanshan District was blocked by rocks Sunday.

Staff at the Yugang Bus Terminal suspected the owner of the terminal land, Wanxia Co. Ltd., might have dumped the rocks because the bus company had not paid the rent for nearly one year, yesterday s Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

The rocks were dumped at around 2 a.m., blocking half the entrance to the Yugang Bus Terminal which operates buses 390 and 383.

The two bus routes belong to Tiancheng Transportation Co. Ltd. and the 5,000-square-meter terminal was rented from Wanxia.

According to the Shekou Subdistrict Office, Tiancheng had not paid the rent for almost a year. Although the subdistrict has found a new place for the terminal, they refused to move, which was the reason for the dispute with Wanxia.

However, Wanxia claimed it knew nothing about the rocks. But one thing is sure, it is illegal to use our land without paying rent and no matter what we say, they just won t go, a Wanxia official told the newspaper.

Residents said the terminal was blocked in June last year by more than 20 suppliers claiming Tiancheng owed them 3 million yuan (US$455,700) in overdue payments for goods. It could have been them who did it, an unidentified resident said.

It was our company and boss who did not pay rent or suppliers, not us. We really don t know anything about it, a staff member said.
