A girl on a free long-distance bus heading to Kunming City in Yunnan Province waves to another free bus for migrant workers in Shenzhen returning home for the Spring Festival at Yinhu Bus Terminal in Luohu District on Saturday. The city s civil affairs authorities set aside 2 million yuan (US$302,115) from the public lottery fund to provide 2,630 free tickets for migrants working in the city to go home for the Chinese Lunar New Year.
A total of 60 buses will ferry workers to 17 provinces including Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei, Hainan, Jiangxi, Henan and Yunnan provinces from Saturday to today. Bookings for the free tickets were first-come-first-served for one person to book one ticket. It was the fourth year the center has organized the program of free tickets since 2007 and nearly 10,000 migrant workers had gone home free.
