Corrupt officials
THE city procuratorate had investigated 233 corrupt officials for abuse of power including 18 department chiefs and five bureau officials, Bai Xinchao, head of Shenzhen People s Procuratorate, said in his report to lawmakers Tuesday. Of the total, 148 were arrested for taking bribes and 38 for embezzlement in land development and construction.
Minimum wage
DEPUTY Zheng Xueding suggested the city government raise the legal minimum wage to 1,600 yuan (US$243) per month because the existing minimum wage of 1,100 yuan a month was too low.
The city human resources and social security bureau said minimum wage increases would be maintained at 15 percent a year. By the end of 2015, the minimum wage would be 2,000 yuan a month.
Garbage incineration
DEPUTY Huang Xiang urged the government to use green energy at the Yuhu Garbage Incineration Plant in Pinghu in Longgang District to reduce pollution and protect the environment. He also suggested the Baigehu incineration plant be relocated.
The city government halted operations at the Baigehu plant after Pinghu residents protested.
