Forged permit
A HONG KONG man was caught at Huanggang Checkpoint on Sunday morning trying to cross the border to Shenzhen using a forged permit.
The Hong Kong man, identified as Lin, said he used the false permit so his wife would not find out that he often came to the mainland for entertainment.
Drug ring smashed
SHENZHEN police recently broke up a drug-trafficking ring, detaining four suspects and seizing about 2.7 kilograms of drugs, the public security bureau said Tuesday.
The gang was masterminded by a Hong Kong man, whose girlfriend was charged with carrying drugs.
Firecracker sale
A MAN was detained by police Monday for illegally storing and selling firecrackers. Police seized 350 cartons of firecrackers in a raid on a rented apartment in Pingshan New Zone on Monday.
The suspect, identified as Zhou, failed to produce licenses required to transport and sell firecrackers. He said he had sold firecrackers worth nearly 40,000 yuan (US$608) since October last year.
Busy border
SOME 4.55 million travelers, a daily average of 569,000, are expected to cross Shenzhen checkpoints during the Spring Festival holidays, authorities said Tuesday.
The figure represents an increase of 11.4 percent over the same period last year. Up to 676,000 travelers a day are expected to cross on peak days.
