THREE suspects were detained for stealing diesel oil at car parks using a modified van, Futian police said Monday.
The suspects, two men surnamed Yang and a man surnamed Ye, were allegedly involved in more than 20 thefts of diesel oil in Futian and Longgang districts. They had admitted to the thefts, police said.
A task force was set up by police in December following reports that diesel oil had been stolen from the fuel tanks of three vehicles in the car park of a housing estate in Futian.
One of the vehicle owners, identified as Lin, lost diesel oil worth about 2,000 yuan (US$304).
Camera footage at the car park and ensuing investigations led police to target a grey van which was seen frequently in Buji, Bantian and Futian areas. The suspects were arrested Jan. 12 in a police ambush.
