ATM theft

A MAN has been detained by police for withdrawing 4,000 yuan (US$607) from a bank card he found at an ATM in Xixiang, Bao an District, last week.

The man, surnamed Huang, was counting the money he had just withdrawn when the owner of the bank card, Lin, returned to retrieve his card.

Firecracker sale

TWO men were detained for allegedly selling firecrackers and illegally shipping explosives in Longhua, Bao an District, police said Sunday.

The suspects, surnamed Zhou and Mo, were negotiating prices with store owners Friday night when police saw the two trucks loaded with about 4 tons of firecrackers.

The men could not produce the documents required to transport explosives.

Industrial salt

POLICE seized more than 4 tons of industrial salt and tools used to process the salt in a raid on an unlicensed workshop in Pingshan New Zone on Sunday. Two suspects were detained.

One of the suspects, identified as Chen, said they had sold about 20 tons of the salt as table salt before the workshop was raided.

Illegal crossing

A MAN was recently caught by police at Wenjindu Checkpoint trying to cross the border to Hong Kong hiding in a truck loaded with pigs.

The man surnamed Su, a native of Fujian Province, climbed out of the truck at the checkpoint thinking he had arrived in Hong Kong. When he realized he was still on the Shenzhen side of the border, he rushed back but was caught by a patrolling police officer.

Su said he had planned to go to Hong Kong to escape criminal prosecution after he was involved in a fight.
