THE One Foundation is raising money to help 2,006 orphaned and disabled children enjoy the Spring Festival.
This is the first charity activity the foundation has held since it was transformed into a public fund-raising organization this month.
The foundation hopes to raise 601,800 yuan (US$91,378) for the 2,006 children, including more than 1,200 from welfare centers in Shenzhen and some 300 from Qinghai, Sichuan, Xinjiang and Yunnan. They will each receive 300 yuan as a Lunar New Year gift.
The foundation will make up for fund shortfall if not enough money is collected.
Donations can be made at Coastal City, Yitian Holiday Plaza, Central Book City and Shenzhen Book City s Luohu Store from Feb. 1 to 17. Donations can also be paid into the One Foundation s bank account at China Merchants Bank Shenzhen Branch. The account number is 755-9176-7101-0888.
To ensure transparency, Yang Peng, the secretary general of the foundation, has invited media organizations as volunteer observers to monitor the source and use of the donated money, and to verify the money has reached each child in need.
All information related to donated money and gift distribution will be updated at the official Web site of the charity organization.
