Tunnel link
A TUNNEL will be built through Dananshan Mountain to connect the Qianhai and Shekou areas in Nanshan District. The tunnel would be part of the Qianhai comprehensive development plan, said the city s planning authority.
The project was proposed by China Merchants Group in July last year and was important for the establishment of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation of Modern Service Industries in Qianhai Area. Yueliangwan Boulevard is now the only existing road linking Qianhai with the rest of the district.
The tunnel will be 1.65 kilometers with two four-way lanes. It will connect Gongye Road 5 in the east and the Gangcheng Road in the west.
Pension increase
THE monthly pension for company retirees was raised by an average of 245 yuan (US$37) per person, up about 10 percent, this month, a Shenzhen Human Resources and Social Security Bureau news conference was told Tuesday. The average monthly pension for company retirees was 2,433 yuan per person in 2010, the bureau said.
New Year cheer
LOW-INCOME families in Guangming and Pingshan New Zones received money gifts and daily commodities provided by the city government and Aeon South China Co. Ltd. yesterday for the Spring Festival.
Aeon South China, which manages Japanese supermarket Jusco s South China outlets, donated rice, duvets and cooking oil valued at 27,590 yuan (US$4,180) for 50 low-income families.

Seeing in new year
ABOUT 100 local entrepreneurs of small and medium companies attended a Chinese New Year party arranged by the Shenzhen Graduate School of Beijing University in Nanshan District. The Shenzhen graduate school was set up in 2001 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The party was sponsored by the school, the city s service center for SMEs and skincare products firm Body Nature.
University land
LAND requisition for the construction of the South University of Sciences and Technology of China campus and a new sub-campus for Shenzhen University was completed yesterday. Nearly 4 square kilometers of land was allocated in Nanshan District, city officials said. More than 700 companies and 50,000 residents have been relocated to make way for construction.
