A MAN demanding his former employer pay him more than 27,000 yuan (US$4,100) in compensation for damaging his reputation has appealed a Bao an court ruling.
The appeal was heard at Shenzhen Intermediate People s Court on Monday.
The man, surnamed Xu, signed a 3-year labor contract with a factory in Bao an District in January 2007. The factory called police March 6, 2009 accusing him of theft. Police took Xu away for questioning, but released him for lack of evidence 30 hours later.
When he was released, the factory told Xu he had been fired for stealing and the contract had been terminated.
Xu took the factory and its parent company in Hong Kong to Bao an District People s Court, demanding 27,948 yuan for psychological trauma and a public apology.
He claimed he had been taunted by his neighbors and colleagues after he was fired. His wife also left, leaving him to take care of their child alone. He also claimed he had not been able to find a job for 17 months.
The factory argued that it had nothing to do with Xu being detained by police for more than 30 hours.
The Bao an court ruled that the factory should apologize to Xu and restore his reputation, but rejected his other claims.
The intermediate court is yet to hand down its decision.
