SOME senior high schools would be allowed to enroll recommended students through self-organized examinations this year, the city s education bureau said yesterday.
The recommended students could enter most city senior high schools without taking entrance examinations, the bureau said.
Details of the plan and which schools would be on the list would be announced before May.
The reform is to help senior high schools enroll students with special talent, such as those who excel at academics, music or sport, the bureau said.
Meanwhile, more than 60 percent of the city s public senior high schools will be allowed to allocate 15 percent of places to junior high pupils this year.
Nine city public schools, including Shenzhen Middle School, Shenzhen Experimental School and Shenzhen Foreign Languages School, and one or two public schools in each district would implement the reform, the bureau said.
Scores of selected students in city entrance examinations can be 30 points lower than the minimum required to enter the schools.
Details of the plan and standards for enrolling the 15 percent would be announced soon after the next semester opened in February.
The new reform was designed to ease the burden for students entering key senior high schools, the bureau said.
