ALL unsold new cars are now required to use temporary car plates on the road or attract fines of up to 10,000 yuan (US$1,523), according to the city traffic police authority.
The car plate for an unsold car would be used only when car dealers moved the car. The temporary plates would be valid for three months and can only be used within Shenzhen, said Fan Zhenke, vice director of the vehicle management department of the traffic police bureau.
The new temporary car plate prefixes are GD BA0001 to GD BF9999. They include an IC card recording the vehicle information, a paper temporary car plate and a plastic car plate which can be hung on the vehicle, Fan said.
Car dealers can buy insurance for unsold cars with the IC card to cover losses in case of an accident.
There would be less than 5,000 temporary car plates. The traffic police authority had already issued 2,500 plates to dealers, Fan said.
Car dealers can apply for the temporary plates at www.stc.gov.cn/ick.
Unsold cars without temporary car plates or IC cards would be subject to a fine of 10,000 yuan. The driver s license would be suspended for six months. A plate not fixed in the designated place would attract a fine of 6,000 yuan and the driver s license would also be suspended for six months.
