SURVEILLANCE cameras will be installed along the Bao an section of National Highway 107 to monitor long-distance coaches that pick up and put down passengers at random.
Passengers walking on the highway after getting off a bus not only endangered themselves but also affected the traffic flow and even caused gridlock, police said.
The problem was especially serious when people returned to Shenzhen after the Spring Festival holidays, prompting Bao an police to launch a three-day campaign to crack down on offenders.
More than 50 police officers were deployed to enforce road rules.
On Friday, traffic police detected 67 traffic violations, 56 of which involved long-distance coaches setting down passengers illegally. (SD News)
