Volunteer teachers
A GROUP of 12 Shenzhen teachers would soon start teaching voluntarily in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the city education bureau said Friday.
This is the seventh group of volunteer teachers Shenzhen has sent to Xinjiang. They will leave Shenzhen today and teach at primary and middle schools in Kashgar City and Taxian County for one year, said Guo Yurong, the bureau head.
Medical trainees
SHENZHEN is enrolling 800 medical trainees in areas such as resident physician, medicine and nursing. They will work at the city s medical organizations after graduation, the health department said Saturday.
All graduates with medical degrees could apply to take the entrance examinations.
Fake cigarettes
HUANGGANG Customs last week seized more than 2,200 outbound cartons of counterfeit cigarettes. It was the first seizure of smuggled cigarettes this year.
Huanggang Customs uncovered five cigarette smuggling cases last year, seizing over 1,000 cartons of cigarettes.
Sailing venue
THE venue for the Universiade sailing regatta at Qixingwan in Longgang District had been completed, Games organizers said. Covering an area of over 190,000 square meters, the venue comprises an athlete reception center, a dining center and other facilities.
Airport runway
A SECOND runway at Shenzhen International Airport would open in June ahead of the Summer Universiade, the airport authority said. The 3,800-meter runway can accommodate the world s largest aircraft, the A380.
Construction of airport Terminal 3 was finished at the end of last year and is scheduled to open next year.
