THE unlicensed farming area at the west side of Tanglang Mountain in Nanshan District would be returned to forest. The blocked stormwater drain had also been cleaned.
Staff from the Taoyuan Subdistrict Office and the district s agriculture department had cleaned up the area and dredged the stormwater drain Wednesday, Thursday s Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
The office s urban management law enforcement team was now negotiating with farmers about removing their vegetable gardens. Trees would be planted returning the fields to forest land, said Zeng, head of the urban management department of the subdistrict office.
Residents living in a nearby residential community said they were looking forward to the government dealing with the unlicensed fields. We have complained about it for so long and can finally have our backyard returned. I will be a volunteer to help them plant trees, an unidentified resident told the newspaper Wednesday.
Farming without a license is not uncommon.
Some people also planted vegetables at the foot of Wutong Mountain. There were at least 100 vegetable fields behind my community. We had no idea they were unlicensed farming areas before reading the story, said a resident of Hezhengjingyuan in Luohu District.
