THE city s transport authority will relocate Meilin Tollgate in March.
The tollgate on Meiguan (Meilin-Guanlan) Expressway will be moved further north to Qinghu Flyover near the entrance to Jihe Expressway.
At a meeting Tuesday, Jiang Zunyu, Party chief of Longgang District, and Shenzhen Vice Mayor Zhang Wen required relevant departments to incorporate the relocation work as part of renovations for the Universiade in August.
The city transport commission said the relocation of the tollgate would benefit residents commuting between Huawei and Foxconn in Bantian, Longgang District, and downtown Shenzhen.
Relocation work had been held up by negotiations over compensation to the Shenzhen Expressway Management Co., Yu Baoming, deputy chief of Shenzhen transport commission, told the meeting.
The Shenzhen Expressway Management Co. submitted a plan to develop 220,000 sqm of land near the original tollgates as compensation.
Jiang suggested the relocation should go ahead and negotiations for compensation be discussed later.
The tollgate relocation and expansion of Meiguan Expressway is expected to dramatically improve traffic flow in the area around Meilin Checkpoint and reduce costs for commuters and companies such as Huawei, Foxconn and South China Logistics Park. (Han Ximin)
