Drunk drivers
POLICE have detained 1,884 drunk drivers since it launched Tiger Hunt in June 2009.
A total of 5,640 drink-driving violations had been detected by Feb. 17, police said. The city reported 1,711 traffic accidents involving deaths and injuries in 2010, a decrease of 12 percent over last year. There were 564 fatalities.
Check fraud
A MANAGER of an electronics company was caught in Jiangxi Province for defrauding suppliers of 3 million yuan (US$68,870). The manager, Liu, had signed contracts with suppliers, even though he knew he would go bankrupt. He fled to Jiangxi last year and was caught Sunday.
Donations to Bijie
SHENZHEN has donated 270 million yuan to the impoverished Bijie County in Guizhou Province over the past 15 years, a meeting was told yesterday.
The donated money had gone toward the construction of schools, a hospital and other public projects. Shenzhen also organized volunteers to teach in Bijie village schools.
