THE city civil affairs bureau said it would join other government departments to verify family assets of applicants of government-subsidized housing and minimum subsistence allowances.
The information verified will cover bank deposits and stocks to prevent applicants from committing fraud.
A number of applicants for government-subsidized housing have been found to own cars and apartments, raising ire among the public and prompting the city government to be stricter with screening the applicants.
The civil affairs bureau will devise ways to verify household assets including securities, housing and cars this year in conjunction with the central bank, the securities regulatory authority, the land resources commission and the public security bureau, bureau officials said.
A database will be set up to this end and the information will be shared by relevant government departments.
Shenzhen s minimum subsistence allowance has been raised from 415 yuan (US$63) per month a person to 450 yuan. A monthly subsidy of 50 yuan per person has also been meted out to minimize the impact of price rises on low-income families.
The city government is now studying how to establish a mechanism to link subsidies for low-income groups to changes in the consumer price index.
