Electronics smuggling
SHENZHEN Customs uncovered two smuggling cases of electronic products on Zhongying Street in Yantian District on Thursday, the department said yesterday. The seizure included mobile phone parts and hard disks. Zhongying Street forms part of the border between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Ecstasy pills seized
SHENZHEN border police seized 20kg of drug powder and ecstasy pills in a recent anti-smuggling operation, a release said yesterday. Five suspects were also apprehended. The ring was exposed when the Seventh Detachment of the Guangdong Frontier Police Division investigated a smuggling incident in June last year.
Diesel thieves
FIVE suspects in Bao an District were caught for stealing diesel from trucks parked at roadside and making a 100,000 yuan (US$15,152) profit in two months. Police in Shajing had received dozens of reports of fuel thefts, Bao an police said yesterday. Investigations are continuing.
Home health care
FUTIAN will offer home health care visits from March this year. The home service will mainly target children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with chronic diseases, covering one-third of the district this year, a meeting of the district s health bureau was told.
Customs counter
SHENZHEN Customs will set up a special counter to deal with business from Shenzhen Huaxing Photo-electric Technology Co. Ltd. and customs staff would also be sent to the factory to inspect cargo which is difficult to inspect at checkpoints.
English speakers
THE city health department would recruit English-language volunteers to work in hospitals during the Universiade. Recruitment would end in July, the health department said yesterday. The volunteers would be trained in medical terms in English. Doctors and nurses would also be trained from March to July to improve their oral English, the department said.
