A MAN from Guizhou Province was still waiting for a DNA result which will decide if he could take home a teenaged girl rescued from begging on street by two middle school students, Chinese-language media reported.
Liang Meiying, 13, from Guizhou Province, was allegedly coaxed by her cousin Liang Jiamin to Shenzhen to see the outside world Jan. 15. She was forced by her cousin to sing and beg on the street before she was rescued last week. She was taken to the city s aid center after the two students in Liantang, Luohu District, took her picture and called police.
She didn t have an identification, so her identity and relationship with her alleged father could not be confirmed. She is staying at the aid center until the DNA test result is known in 10 days.
The girl was cared for by her 72-year-old grandfather in her hometown, Kaili, while her father Liang Zaiwen ran a grocery store in Taijiang in Guizhou Province, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
The girl told reporters at the city aid center that her cousin allegedly bought a school uniform for her and forced her to sing and beg on the street.
She [the cousin] made up a story on paper, saying my parents died in a gas poisoning to gain sympathy and we divided the money, said the girl. (Han Ximin)
