Bilingual bus stops
THE city transport commission will renew signs at bus stops with locations in Chinese and English.
The new signs will be finished before the end of June.
The commission had initiated action in January to clean up bus stops and signboards. By Thursday, 6,132 bus stops had been cleaned.
Scaffolding collapse
A 30-METER-LONG scaffolding at Yihe housing estate at the intersection of Shazui Road and Fuqiang Road in Futian District collapsed Sunday afternoon. No one was injured.
Driver caught
A DRIVER who fled the scene of an accident in which a pedestrian was killed and six others injured seven months ago has been apprehended by police.
Nanshan police received a report Feb. 16, saying the driver Luo was hiding in a village in Huadu in Guangzhou. Nanshan police found him in the village.
Luo was the driver of the car when the pedestrian was killed on Shahe Road West in July last year.
Climber saved
A 63-YEAR-OLD hiker who was injured and trapped on a mountain was rescued Sunday.
The elderly hiker, Xie, fractured a bone in his foot in a fall while he was hiking from Meilin to Xili.
It took 2 hours for the rescuers to carry him down the mountain. The city s emergency center reminded hikers to use safe roads.
