Travel season ends
THE city had transported 9.51 million passengers in the 40-day Spring Festival travel season, a 4.11-percent increase over the same period last year. For the first time, more than 5 million passengers had been transported during the pre-festival period, the city transport authority said yesterday.
Falling object
A 10-YEAR-OLD boy received 10 stitches in hospital after he was hit by a falling stone wrapped in plastic. The stone was suspected of being thrown from a building in Jianye residential quarters in Zhuzilin, Futian District, on Saturday evening. The boy was playing with others when the stone was thrown from a window and hit him on the head.
Police are investigating.
Jewelry fair
THE Shenzhen International Gold, Jewelry and Jade Exhibition was held at Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on Saturday, attracting 350 exhibitors from 12 countries.
The manufacturing and transaction of gold and jewelry products in Shenzhen accounts for 70 percent of the market in China. China has become world s biggest gold producer. It produced 341 tons of gold in 2010, an increase of 9 percent compared with 2009.
School buses
POLICE checked more than 2,000 school buses Saturday and issued operation licenses. Vehicles without licenses will be banned from roads from March 20, police said.
Factory fire
AN industrial park in Bao an District caught fire Saturday. The fire was put out in half an hour. No casualties were reported. It wasn t known what caused the fire, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday. Police are investigating.
