Ferry services
FARES for the ferry from Shekou to Macao increased to 180 yuan (US$27.3) per person for economy passengers and 280 yuan per person for VIP passengers yesterday.
There are 13 ferry services operating between Shekou and Macao each day. The first ferry departs at 8:15 a.m.
There were minor changes to the schedule for ferries departing Hong Kong airport at 10 a.m. and 7:50 p.m. The new times are 10:15 a.m. and 8 p.m. They are expected to arrive at Fuyong at 11 a.m. and 8:45 p.m.
Gas explosion
TWO Hong Kong people living in Nanwan Subdistrict, Longgang District, were seriously injured in a gas explosion yesterday.
According to a witness surnamed Li, a man surnamed Huang was cooking breakfast when the gas exploded. The other man, identified as Chen, was sleeping in another room. Doctors at Nanwan hospital said the two were seriously burned and were transferred to Shenzhen No. 2 People s Hospital.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
Police unit
A 350-MEMBER traffic police unit was established yesterday to ensure traffic safety for visitors to the Universiade in August. About 4,000 foreign guests, 7,000 registered media employees and 17,000 athletes and technical staff will visit Shenzhen during the Universiade, police said.
Fraud trial
A MAN went on trial in the Shenzhen Intermediate People s Court yesterday on charges of having swindled more than 30 million yuan in contract fraud by posing as an official with the paramilitary force. Liu Lu, 44, of Hubei Province, was accused of defrauding the money by promising contracts for the construction of a hotel. The trial is continuing.
