THE Animals Asia Foundation (AAF) will organize the seventh Doctor Dog Competition in Shenzhen in April. Pet dog owners can apply to attend before March 31.
Eligible dogs must be at least 2 years old and have lived with their owners for more than six months, according to the AAF. They must also have been vaccinated and sterilized. The owners will be required to present licenses for keeping the dogs.
A total of 29 dogs have been awarded the title of doctors since the first competition was held in Shenzhen in December 2006. They have been taken to the city s welfare centers, autism research institutes, children s rehabilitation centers and the elderly s homes on a regular basis to spread happiness.
The doctor dogs have also been taken to classrooms since November last year and taught some 1,000 students to care for animals, according to one of the examiners.
