A REGULATION to manage rivers in Shenzhen was passed by the city legislature Monday.
Under the regulation, no individuals, social institutions or companies will be allowed to block rivers without official approval. Offenders will be fined between 100,000 yuan (US$15,214) and 200,000 yuan and ordered to remove the blockage. The water resources authority would restore rivers if offenders failed to within a designated period of time. The offenders would be ordered to pay the costs.
The rule also applies to project contractors found responsible for blocking rivers with sludge. Offenders would be ordered to dredge the river or rivers.
Administrative penalties would be imposed on project contractors if they were found to have violated the regulation.
