SHENZHEN motorists can apply to renew their driver s licenses through a traffic police online service from March 10.
The online service, the first in Guangdong, will help relieve the inconvenience of motorists having to wait in queues at vehicle registration and management offices, deputy chief Fan Zhenke of the vehicle management department of Shenzhen traffic police bureau said yesterday.
Drivers could select license plates, apply to renew their driver s licenses or make an appointment for a test online. They could also check records of traffic violations such as speeding or going through red lights by logging onto the Web site, which police will announce later because the system is still being tested.
Drivers can submit their applications online and police will verify their information before delivering the new licenses by mail, Fan said.
Police will launch QQ instant messenger service and open a hotline 2222-2000 with 10 lines for consultations and handle complaints around the clock.
The number of vehicles in Shenzhen had exceeded 1.7 million by December last year and the number was expected to reach 2.1 million by the end of this year. Vehicle registration offices handle around 12,803 applications a day.
