Falling brick
A 4-YEAR-OLD girl was injured in the head when a brick fell from a residential building near Jindaotian Road in Luohu District on Sunday.
They were on their way home from a wet market when her daughter was hit by the brick, said the girl s mother, who gave her name as Lu.
The girl received five stitches at hospital and nobody living in the building has admitted to throwing off the brick.
Orchard removed
AUTHORITIES in Bao an District have started to demolish illegal construction in an orchard located inside the water source protection zone of Tiegang Reservoir.
The orchard will be removed to avoid water in the reservoir being polluted by fertilizer. Trees will be replanted as one of the measures to better protect the reservoir.
Drug safety
MARCH will be designated as Shenzhen s publicity month for drug safety. Activities will be held to help residents understand how to administer medication in a safe way, the city drug administration said.
Bus accident
THREE passengers in a bus were injured when the bus driver swerved to avoid running into a vehicle in the front and rushed into a greenbelt on Renmin Road in Longhua, Bao an District, on Sunday.
A road sign was pulled off under the force and hit a passing car. A man and his daughter in the car were scared but escaped unscathed.
Police are investigating.
Fire hydrant
A FIRE hydrant on a pedestrian walkway was broken after being hit by a car in Shajing Subdistrict, Bao an District, on Sunday.
Water spouting from the hydrant reached as high as a four-story building, witnesses said.
It took nearly five hours for staff with the district s water resources company to fix the problem. The car involved in the accident is yet to be found.
Coastal promenade
WORK on Xiaomeisha coastal promenade is scheduled to be finished in the first half of the year, the project contractor said.
Construction of the 1,500-meter promenade started in June last year. About 1,400 meters of the road had been finished.
Social workers
SHENZHEN will recruit more than 500 new social workers this year, the city civil affairs bureau said. The city government now employs more than 1,300 social workers.
