A NEW housing project, a sample project for the future development of the special economic zone integration, started in Longgang District on Saturday, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday.
Huawei Technology Town was a renovation project in Bantian Subdistrict where telecom giant Huawei Technologies is located. Occupying more than 320,000 square meters in Xuegang neighborhood, it will be built into a high-tech compound with modern residential buildings and a large shopping area, according to the project developer Kaisa Group.
Kindergartens and other education facilities such as primary and middle schools will also be available in the compound. It is expected to accommodate 25,000 people, said Guo Yingcheng, CEO of the Hong Kong-listed real-estate developer, at a foundation laying ceremony attended by Longang District Party chief Jiang Zunyu and district chief Jiang Jianjun.
The Daily quoted a senior official of the city s planning and construction bureau as saying Huawei Technology Town was a sample project for the construction for the expansion of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The SEZ was expanded from Futian, Luohu, Nanshan and Yantian districts to cover the whole city last July. Infrastructure in the former non-special economic zone was one of the main sectors the city aims to improve after integration.
Huawei Technology Town was the first project since the city government adopted a policy on urban renovation in December 2009, the Daily said. (SD News)
