Free vaccine

THE city will administer free poliomyelitis vaccine to children born after April 1, 2007.

Parents can take their children to the city s 499 inoculation centers at public hospitals and community health centers, to be vaccinated, the city health department said Friday.

The vaccine is administered orally and children will need another dose one month later.

School bus accident

A SCHOOL bus in Longgang District lost control and crashed into a roadside toilet Friday morning when it attempted to avoid a tricycle on Changlong Road.

The bus, carrying five students, was on the way to Luohu District, according to the bus driver, who was injured. The children were not injured.

Police are investigating.

Money trafficker

A MAN was caught allegedly carrying US$120,000 across the border to Hong Kong at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint on Friday.

This is so far the largest sum seized by Shenzhen Customs.

The man, Zhou, strapped the money around his waist and was carrying US$35,000, HK$100,000 (US$12,843) and 34.69-karat diamond in a bag, customs said.

Workers injured

TWO workers were injured Saturday when a section of a bridge collapsed in Buji, Longgang District, on the Shenzhen-Xiamen high-speed railway.

The two workers who suffered bone fractures were taken to Shenzhen No. 3 People s Hospital.

An investigation is under way.

Illegal taxis

TRANSPORT and traffic police authorities punished 52 private car drivers for operating illegal taxis at checkpoints and transport terminals.

In Friday s action, authorities set up inspection stations in key areas such as railway stations, the airport, checkpoints and bus terminals and found 697 violations in two hours.

Food poisoning

MORE than 20 workers in a factory in Guanlan, Bao an District, were reported to have been poisoned by undercooked potatoes.

The workers at Lianxing Factory suffered stomachache, diarrhea and vomiting after lunch Friday. The health authority had taken food samples and concluded the potatoes were undercooked. The workers recovered after medical treatment.
