THE city will introduce a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along Xincai and Caiyin passages, according to a Shenzhen transport commission plan released Thursday.
The construction of the BRT system was part of the city s effort to build a city of public transport.
The 3.25-km Xincai Highway which connects Caitian Road in Futain and Xinqu Boulevard in Bao an, is designed to relieve traffic congestion at the Meilin Checkpoint. The two-way, six-lane project includes 1.8 km underground and a flyover connecting Caitian Road and Huanggang Road. The 7.5-km Caiyin Highway, which connects the Nigang and Nanping flyovers, will be finished in 2015.
The BRT system in Guangzhou carries about 800,000 commuters a day, double the capacity of Shenzhen Metro lines, but the construction cost is only one-10th of the Metro project.
