THE Shenzhen Foreign Languages School (SFLS) will open a Russian language class in September, enrolling students graduating from primary schools, the school said Thursday.
The school plans to enroll about 20 students for the Russian class and they will have a chance to attend exchange activities held with a Russian sister school during vacations every year, school principal Tang Jiahong said Thursday.
Teachers and students from the SFLS and the Samara No.1 Art School in Russia would conduct regular exchange activities in the next five years, according to a contract signed between the two schools Thursday.
We are looking forward to the cooperation as it is not only a great opportunity to improve our language learning but also a good platform to learn about different cultures, said Vladimirovna Kartamysheva, principal of the Russian school.
Kartamysheva said their school had run a Chinese course for years and hoped to seek more opportunities for exchange and communication with SFLS in the future.
The SFLS first opened a Russian language course in 2008 after signing an agreement with Samara Business College in 2008, but students were not enrolled every year.
As well as English, the SFLS also has classes in German, French, Japanese, Spanish and Russian. Each class has about 20 students.
Language learning is very popular among students and we have foreign teachers to help them. Most will choose majors such as languages, foreign affairs or international trading, said vice principal Li Wu.
The school was also trying to build a relationship with the volunteer department of the Universiade organizing committee.
