Suspect seized
A TRICYCLE driver who allegedly escaped from an accident that killed a bicycle rider was caught in Chongqing and taken back to Shenzhen yesterday, 16 days after his escape.
The rider, identified as She, a native of Chongqing, allegedly knocked down the cycler at Dongzong Road in Pingshan Subdistrict, Pingshan New Zone, on Feb. 20. She escaped to Chongqing and the bicycle rider was later pronounced dead at hospital, police said.
Second runway
A SECOND runway at the Shenzhen airport will be put into service in June while a new terminal, T3, will also begin service by the end of next year, Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday, citing airport authorities. Construction of the second runway, 3,600 meters long and 60 meters wide, started in December 2005 to the west of existing runway. It is designed to accommodate the world s largest aircraft A380.
Naming contest
RESIDENTS are invited to give names to five government-subsidized housing projects in Longgang District before March 18. English for cabbies
ABOUT 3,000 cab drivers started English training yesterday to improve their service for overseas guests coming to attend Shenzhen Universiade in August. Some 100 star learners will be selected, according to a meeting yesterday.
According to city s transport commission, around 1,500 drivers will be chosen to serve the Universiade and the training will last five months.
Girl survives
A 13-YEAR-OLD girl survived a fall from a balcony on the fifth floor of an apartment building in Caopu, Luohu District, yesterday. Liu Jiaqi had 11 ribs broken, but is in a stable condition, sources from Shenzhen Armed Police Hospital said. Liu was hanging up her clothes when she lost balance and fell from the window, according to her mother.
Thieves caught
PINGSHAN police detained seven suspects who allegedly robbed and stole at construction sites in the new zone. The suspects would drive a truck into the construction sites in broad daylight to load the construction materials. If anyone stopped them, they hacked with knives, iron bars and robbed by force, police said.
