SHENZHEN University will introduce an independent enrollment mechanism to admit qualified students, according to a draft plan for the university s development in the coming five years.
Students can sit for the examinations organized by the university instead of taking the national college entrance examinations (NCEE) if they want to study at the university in the future.
Unlike other universities which give limited quotas, the examination and enrollment system will cover all the students who apply, says the draft plan, which was handed to experts for review.
The university will conduct reforms in teaching, administration and teachers recruitment to build a renowned higher education institution, the draft plan says.
The number of students at Shenzhen University is expected to reach 35,000 and the number of overseas students will double to 1,500 by the end of 2015.
The university will introduce 30 to 40 leading experts or academicians in science and arts fields in five years. The number of teachers with doctoral degrees will account for 70 percent of all 3,300 teaching staff in five years.
It will make a breakthrough to build about two national laboratories directly under the Ministry of Education. It is speeding up the construction of two new campuses in the high-tech park and Xili in Nanshan. (Han Ximin)
