FORTY wine sellers vowed Wednesday at Shenzhen International Grape Wine City in Longgang District to jointly promote a reliable wine market and boycott fake wine.
A reliable wine market could not only protect people s health, but also promote the city s image and wine brands, particularly during the Universiade, said Chen Shao-wen, head of Shenzhen Consumer Council, the event s organizer.
China has a profound wine culture, which in turn has led to rampant production of fake wine.
So far, there are more than 2,000 registered wine sellers in the city. Last year, Shenzhen Consumer Council received 88 complaints about wine, ranging from fake wine, low-quality wine and unreasonably priced wine.
Such fake and low-quality wine could do harm to the sound development of the wine market and destroy consumers confidence in wine, said Cai Yan, secretary general of the city s wine industry association.
