MANY residents have recently complained about express delivery companies, saying their rights cannot be protected due to lack of effective regulation in the industry.
Some residents said the courier companies always avoided responsibilities using excuses like industrial rules and it was difficult to get reasonable compensation if something went wrong during delivery, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
One of the residents, identified as Yu, said he sent an iPhone 4 from Shenzhen to Dongguan through S.F. Express, a well-known express company, Jan. 3 and insured the parcel for 6,000 yuan (US$913), but the parcel returned to him Jan. 16 as the recipient had not been found.
Yu said he found the iPhone 4 was not the one he mailed.
Yu complained to the company, but he had waited for more than one month before receiving a call from the company. They asked me to give evidence to prove the cell phone was changed during delivery, Yu said.
Another resident, Zhang, said it was unreasonable for delivery companies to compensate little money for the losses and damages of expensive parcels. I sent a cell phone from Shenzhen through Yuantong Express and it was broken during the delivery, but the company compensated me only about 30 yuan, which was three times the delivery charge, because it was not an insured parcel, he said.
Experts suggested residents insure expensive parcels and check them before the deliveryman leaves.
