TWO electronics enterprises in Bao an District would be fined 110,000 yuan (US$16,730) and 230,000 yuan after being caught red-handed discharging wastewater Thursday.

One of the two offenders, which was located in an industrial park in Shajing Subdistrict, was found discharging untreated wastewater when a six-member inspection team raided the enterprise s factory, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Saturday.

The factory s wastewater treatment facilities were found not used and that all the wastewater was directly discharged into storm drains, the paper said.

The offending enterprise was once fined for discharging untreated wastewater and had its waste discharge license revoked.

However, the enterprise turned a blind eye to the punishment.

The inspection team encountered resistance from the security staff in another offending enterprise.

The security staff cut the electricity in the factory when the inspection team arrived, the paper said.

In addition, an unidentified man verbally threatened the inspection team to delete pictures the team had taken of the factory.

The resistant enterprise used to be subject to an administrative punishment for illegally expanding manufacturing.

The city environment commission has stepped up its crackdown on activities related to polluting the environment as the Universiade is around the corner.

Home to a cluster of industrial enterprises, Bao an and Longgang districts have received special attention in the environment inspection.

When the penalties are executed, the two offending enterprises will become the first to be punished according to the city s environmental protection regulations, which used to apply only to the old special economic zone excluding Bao an and Longgang districts.
