Barber blackmail
A MAN in Longgang was caught for extorting a total of 1,000 yuan (US$152) from a barber over his dissatisfaction about his hairstyle.
The man quarreled with the barber after the haircut in January and called his friend Jiang. Jiang went to the barber s shop with a watermelon knife and forced the barber, Li, to give him all the money in the shop. They also forced Li to write an IOU letter, prosecutors said.
Fuel surcharge
AN additional 1 yuan surcharge will be introduced for green taxis operating in Longgang and Bao an districts starting Tuesday, according to an announcement by the city development and reform commission.
The announcement was made after the No. 93 gasoline had reached 7.14 yuan per liter. The surcharge would bring an additional monthly income of 1,000 yuan for a cabdriver and could help offset the cost caused by the rise of gasoline prices.
Soil erosion
SHENZHEN had reduced the soil erosion of 137 square kilometers of land in six years between 1995 and 2010, a meeting of the city water resources administration said.
