A TOTAL of 56 medical institutions in the city were held accountable by the health authority over misconduct in 2010.
Most of the organizations were criticized for illegally collecting blood, testing babies gender or giving abortions. Some were found guilty of hiring medical staff without relevant certificates or allowing serious medical accidents to happen.
Of the organizations, 13 with serious violations were ordered to right the wrongs immediately, otherwise they would have their licenses suspended. Among the medical institutions are private clinics and a large majority of which are in Bao an District.
Meanwhile, the city-level public hospitals signed contracts with the health authority Thursday allowing them to become independent corporate organizations.
The hospitals include Shenzhen People s Hospital, Shenzhen No. 2 People s Hospital, Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital and Shenzhen Children s Hospital.
It was one of the important measures for the city s public health reform, aiming at increasing efficiency and improving management levels at the hospitals through administrative reform.
The reform measure will later be extended to all of the city s public hospitals and organizations.
Shenzhen will also continue to lower medical expenses and increase efficiency, building more special hospitals in districts and introducing family doctors in communities this year.
More cooperation programs with universities and Hong Kong hospitals will be promoted to increase the city s medical level.
