A FACTORY building in Buji, Longgang District, was in ruins after a three-hour fire early Tuesday morning.
The fire started at around 5:10 a.m. from the packaging workshop of Shaoxing Vegetable Shenzhen Co., a joint venture near Buli Road, Sanlian Community. No one was injured.
According to a witness surnamed Yao, who lived nearby, the flames appeared to be dozens of meters tall when the fire started.
Fifteen fire engines arrived at the scene after the incident and it took several hours to contain the blaze as the factory was located on high land and the water pressure was too low. Firefighters had to get water from the nearby Sanlian Village. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Residents suspected the fire was caused by a short circuit of the electric wires which were laid on the grassland.
The company, partly funded by a Hong Kong businessman, was in the business of packing vegetables for export to Southeast Asian countries.
