BAO AN police captured a man suspected of possessing narcotics in Shajing on Monday night. The man was allegedly carrying 1 kg of drugs for a deal.
The unidentified suspect was shot in the leg when trying to resist the police s arrest, Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
The suspect was not in critical condition, the paper said.
Tipped on the drug deal beforehand, the police ambushed at the parking lot of Huangpu Hotel in Shajing.
However, when the police showed up, the suspect started his car and tried to escape, ignoring the police s warning shots.
He even tried to grab the gun off a policeman approaching his car, the paper said.
The police shot the man in the leg, forcing him to stop his car and seizing the drugs from the vehicle.
The suspect s car hit and damaged another two vehicles in the parking lot.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital immediately after being shot, the paper said.
The Bao an procuratorate considered the police shooting a legal act following an earlier report.
The investigation is ongoing.
