POLICE are encouraging people to photograph and report traffic offenses such as illegally occupying bus lanes or illegally changing lanes.
Photographic evidence can be sent to the city traffic police bureau s official Web site at www.stc.gov.cn. Police reminded residents to fill in their names, phone numbers and the time and place of the alleged offenses along with the registration plate numbers when uploading the photos.
The system would automatically generate a serial number for citizens to follow the progress of their report.
Police would open other channels via the QQ instant messenger service and an e-mail inbox service to receive reports of violations including illegally occupying bus lanes, illegally changing lanes or cutting in front of other cars, overtaking vehicles on the wrong side of the road or occupying emergency lanes on expressways.
The photos are required to be uploaded within 72 hours of the offenses and would be put on a database that would allow police to call the vehicle owners. If the case is pursued, police will let the informants know.
Police also opened a counter at the traffic command center building at 1006 Lianhua Branch Road in Futian District to receive complaints.
