PEOPLE who report the license plate numbers, type of vehicle and information about a driver who flees the scene of a traffic accident will be paid a reward of 1,000 yuan (US$152) each.
If a hit-and-run involves injuries, the informant would be eligible for a higher reward of 2,000 yuan. If one to two fatalities are involved, the reward will be increased to 10,000 yuan and would be doubled to 20,000 yuan if there are three deaths.
People who report vehicles with duplicated, false or unlicensed plates would receive rewards of 1,000 yuan. If multiple duplicate or false plates for one unit or organization are reported, the informant would receive a cumulative reward of no more than 5,000 yuan.
Reporting those who manufacture and sell duplicate or false plates carries a reward of 5,000 yuan. Total reward money for a single informant is capped at 20,000 yuan.
Police also encourage residents to report violations through multimedia messages to curb violations such as illegally changing lanes and illegal parking. But it has not been decided how people should submit such messages and whether they will be awarded.
