HIV check

SEVEN hospitals in the city can now give HIV checks to patients, the city s health authority said Friday.

The hospitals are mainly in Bao an and Longgang districts. They include Dapeng People s Hospital, Baotian Hospital, Dalang Health Institute and Shenzhen Guangsheng Hospital.

Yacht fined

A YACHT registered in Wuhu, Anhui Province, was fined 20,000 yuan (US$3,045) by the marine authority in Shenzhen for illegally discharging oil-polluted water into waters off Dameisha Beach.

It was reported to be the first time that the city s marine authority had imposed an administrative penalty on a yacht.

Car crushed

A TANKER loaded with 10 tons of hydrochloric acid overturned under a flyover in Nanshan District on Friday, crushing a car and killing the driver.

Only a small amount of hydrochloric acid leaked and an explosion was prevented after firefighters sprayed water onto the tanker to bring down the temperature, the environmental protection authority said.

Seniors foundation

A ZHUHAI-BASED company donated 380,000 yuan to Shenzhen Aging Development Foundation on Friday to help the foundation organize a senior citizens talent show. The company also donated 180,000 yuan worth of medication and health care products to sponsor the event.

Drugs seized

POLICE seized 10 grams of drugs from two men living in a rented apartment in Guanlan Subdistrict, Bao an District, on Thursday.

The men, who were not identified, raised the suspicion of staff members of the subdistrict s rental housing management station who were conducting a routine check Thursday. The staff reported to police who later found 10 grams of drugs and tools used in taking drugs in the apartment. The men were taken away for questioning.

Fall injury

A 3-YEAR-OLD boy survived after he fell from the balcony of a sixth-floor apartment in Buji, Longgang District, on Saturday.

The boy, identified as Xiao ao, suffered hematoma in his head, doctors said. Other than that, he sustained no fractures.

The boy first hit the cover of a roadside lamp before two passers-by caught him, a witness surnamed Wang said. The boy fell onto the cement ground, but the force had already been substantially reduced, Wang said.
