A PATIENT referral mechanism, to be launched between Shenzhen and Hong Kong public hospitals March 30, will benefit a large number of Hong Kong residents living in Shenzhen, Shenzhen s health authorities said Tuesday.
From March 30, Hong Kong residents hospitalized in two Shenzhen hospitals Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital and Nanshan District People s Hospital will be eligible for referral to two Hong Kong hospitals, Hong Kong North District Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital, if their conditions allow.
Hong Kong patients in life-threatening conditions and clinical patients were excluded, authorities said.
Shenzhen residents being treated in Hong Kong hospitals were also excluded.
Eligible patients must fill in an agreement for referral with the Shenzhen hospital where they are admitted and Shenzhen doctors must fax detailed health reports on the patients to the recipient Hong Kong hospital and notify the hospital of the arrival time of the patients.
Patients from Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital will be referred to Hong Kong North District Hospital, while those from Nanshan People s Hospital would be referred to Hong Kong s Tuen Mun Hospital.
Patients who need ambulances have to contact Hong Kong health authorities for transfer at border checkpoints, according to Shenzhen health authorities. Shenzhen hospitals will not be responsible when patients enter Hong Kong territory.
In the near future, four other Shenzhen public hospitals would join the mechanism, the health authorities said. They are Shenzhen People s Hospital, Shenzhen No. 2 People s Hospital, Bao an District People s Hospital and Longgang District Central Hospital. Patients who cross the border via Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint will be referred to Tuen Mun Hospital while those via other checkpoints to Hong Kong North District Hospital. (Li Jing)
